Why Add a Golden Egg to Your Easter Egg Hunt?
Last year, we hosted our first Easter egg hunt and breakfast—and it was so much fun that we’re already planning to make it a yearly tradition.
One thing we added to the hunt that the kids absolutely loved was the chance of finding a golden Easter egg.
Along with the typical colorful eggs (these plastic eggs are seriously the best!), we hid a few golden eggs that worked a little differently.

The golden egg felt extra special because instead of candy, it held a golden ticket.
Kids could then trade their ticket for a prize from a special golden egg prize basket—which made finding one feel extra exciting.

How to Set Up a Golden Egg Easter Egg Hunt
Setting up a golden Easter egg hunt is actually very easy—and it adds so much fun to the day.
Here’s what we did:
- Pick how many golden eggs you want to hide (we hid 5)
- Place a golden ticket inside each egg (you can grab my free printable tickets below)
- Put together a prize basket (I also created a matching printable tag for the prize basket)
- Hide the golden eggs just a little harder than the regular ones

That’s it!
It’s such a small addition, but it makes the hunt feel extra special—and the kids get so excited about it.
Honestly, this ended up being one of the biggest highlights of the whole hunt.

Now let’s talk about what to actually put inside those golden eggs…
We created a prize basket filled with things that were affordable, but still really fun for the kids.
If you’re planning your own golden egg hunt, here are some great golden Easter egg prize ideas:
- Small plush bunnies or stuffed animals
- Easter Coloring books
- Easter craft kits

- Easter egg chalk
- Finger lights with designs
If you want a quick starting point, here are a few easy prize ideas kids always love:
Here’s what our prize basket looked like:

We had a variety of items to choose from that I picked up at the dollar section at Target or the Dollar Store. I also hit up the after Easter sales in search of fun prizes for next year’s hunt.
We hid five golden eggs total, which definitely made each one a hot commodity!
So to prevent any anarchy around the prize basket, each golden ticket included instructions to:
“Find the lady with the bunny ears to claim your prize.”
This helped keep things organized and made the prize selection process run smoothly.
