If you know me at all, you know that I welcome any and every excuse to throw a party. Really, what could be better than taking a break from the humdrum of life to enjoy a good time with friends and family while eating delicious food?!
When my son decided to follow Jesus Christ by choosing to be baptized, it definitely was an event to celebrate!
Unlike other occasions when it is quite alright to go a bit overboard, I wanted to keep things simple with this event. It helped to keep the focus on the baptism service and the baptism itself and not on any of the fluff.
But I am also a firm believer in feeding people’s souls and their bodies. Especially the young ones who are giving up an hour of their Saturday morning to support my son’s decision to get baptized.
For my eldest’s baptism, I created a bagel bar which was a big hit with everyone both young and old. But I like to switch things up so the question was what would be a fabulous brunch idea (aside from a bagel bar) that is super easy to put together and is a great crowd pleaser?
A YOGURT PARFAIT BAR!
Who doesn’t love customizing food to their own personal tastes? I know I sure do! And with all the ingredients ready to assemble aside from the cutting up of fruit, nothing could be easier! Unless of course, you are going the route of making all the yogurt yourself, which in that case, more power to you… a lot more work as well! π
What is a yogurt parfait bar?
A yogurt parfait is simply layering yogurt with delicious additions like granola, fruit, nuts, and honey. A yogurt parfait bar has all those elements displayed, buffet style, so guests can customize their own yogurt parfait to their liking.
What to serve on a yogurt parfait bar?
What I love about a yogurt parfait bar is the versatility of it. It can be as extravagant or as simple as you would like. Keep it minimal with a few toppings and one yogurt flavor, or go crazy with LOTS of toppings and yogurt choices. Itβs really up to you!
We kept our yogurt bar simple, but you could most definitely create a more elaborate one for a baby shower, bridal shower, fun girl’s brunch, or maybe for mother’s day!
β’ YOGURT
You can have just one yogurt, like we did, or serve an array of flavors. I would definitely recommend a plain or vanilla yogurt to start with. It’s a great universal base that any topping compliments. The second yogurt variety I would add would be a plain Greek yogurt. This is great for those that would like a healthier, less sweet option. If you choose to add another flavor, I would then add the most popular yogurt flavor, strawberry.
When branching off with an assortment of yogurts, be sure to label each flavor to avoid any confusion for your guests. Don’t worry, I have free labels for you at the end of this post!

Now that we have the fundamental part of our parfait, let’s dive into what are some good toppings for yogurt! It wouldn’t be a yogurt parfait without the toppings!
β’ GRANOLA & CRUNCHIES
Add delicious crunch to the yogurt by including a few varieties of granola. If you have time, make your own sugar free granola or just purchase some favorites from the store.
Some other crunchy mix-ins we served were walnuts, slivered almonds, and my son’s absolute favorite, mini unsweetened chocolate chips. Cereal is also a popular option, along with a variety of nuts like cashews, pecans, and pistachios as well as seeds such as chia seeds, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds.
What are the best crunchy toppings for yogurt? I’ll let you decide!
β’ FRESH FRUIT
The fruit adds delicious sweetness along with beautiful color! We served strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, raspberries, and blackberries. Several other tasty options are peaches, nectarines, pomegranates, bananas, mangoes, cherries, pineapples, berries of all kinds, shredded coconut– really any other fruit you would like!
If you can, try to get what’s in season and go for an assortment of colors for visual appeal. Also keep in mind the preparation of each fruit. Some fruits are best prepped shortly before serving, like bananas, otherwise they lose their color and/or freshness. We were able to cut up the strawberries and kiwi the night before and they were still delicious the next day.

If you are serving your fruit on a wood surface, be sure to cover the wood with something (I used tin foil) to protect it from all that moisture and from fruit stains.
β’ A FEW EXTRAS
If you want to go a little more delectable, add maple syrup or honey as a natural sweetener (I found this adorable honey dropper here). Jams and nut butters are also a great option as well as dried fruits such as apricots, cranberries, and cherries.
Recreate the look:
To compliment the yogurt parfait bar, we served homemade blueberry muffins. I was considering baking another variety of muffin as well as serving mini donuts, but going back to that whole “keeping it simple”, I decided to forgo those delicious yet unneeded additions.
How do you setup a yogurt parfait bar?
Now comes my favorite part… assembling the yogurt buffet!
Use cutting boards, platters, serving trays, jars, cake stands, these mini bowls, mismatched bowls to arrange and serve your fruit, toppings, and yogurt in. Keep in mind size and height for some visual variety. And don’t forget the serving utensils, sorry I had failed to put those out before taking photos!
I had these charming wooden spoons and cute paper cups for the guest’s yogurt. I know, I know, you usually have clear cups for a yogurt parfait but for the audience of many little people, I thought these would be a little bit more durable.

Hi Sherie,
That’s so odd and frustrating! I just tested it and everything seems to be working on my end. Was the file in your downloads folder? Does it show a zip file? Were you able to unzip it? Just double click it to open it. Just let me know so you can access the files!
