A little late in getting this out, but too fun not to share! ๐ As you can see, we were a Wizard of Oz family for Halloween this year. We had debated going off the theme of Peter Pan but Boston was pretty set on being a lion this year and loved telling people about it, so we decided to go with the Wizard of Oz.

Don’t I have such stoic children? Well at least they weren’t screaming, which is great because neither one of them wanted to take pictures.
In case you are wondering, that is a lion tattoo on Boston’s cheek that he had gotten the night before at our church’s Trunk or Treat. That little sucker took a long time to get off!
I really dislike that I am a last minute person when it comes to party and props, but that is when the ideas start flowing for me! We created our Wizard of Oz trunk props late the night before and scrambled to finish them before heading to the Trunk or Treat. Cardboard, paint, and a littler glitter really do wonders! (I have a deep love for cardboard when it comes to party/props planning).
We had bought this really cool bubble machine gun for the boys when we went to the Big E. To add to the effect of the trunk-or-treaters, we had bubbles blowing while they walked up to the trunk for their candy. I also brought glow sticks that we were going to break open to drip the juice all over the yellow brick road so it would glow a little since it was dark, but we forgot to do it in the hussle and bussel of getting ready.
The DIY Ruby Slippers
Just fyi I had my ruby slippers in the car but completely forgot to put them on for the trunk or treat picture! The ruby slippers were super simple and inexpensive to make and I received several compliments on them. I mean really, what would Dorothy’s costume be without them?!
Supplies Needed for DIY Ruby Slippers:
-shoes
-blue tap
-mod podge
-red glitter
-brush
To start the project, I first taped the inside of the shoes. For the glitter, the trick is to mix some mod podge and glitter in a bowl first and then use a brush to paint the glitter mixture onto the shoes. It was awesome because I didn’t waste much glitter and there wasn’t glitter all over the place! I put on two coats and was pretty pleased with the result!
We never got a single smile out of Tennessee but he still looks completely adorable.
Oh and about Toto… my sister has a little dog which would have been perfect, except she moved away just a few months ago! BAH! I had a second chance at a Toto when our neighbor came by that morning showing us their new little puppy, which would have also been perfect! Sadly, I didn’t think to ask if I could borrow the pup for a photo. My husband thought that might be a little much… would of it been? Would have you done it?
This year’s bounty! Contrary to the face he is portraying here, Boston loves sharing his candy. Whenever he receives any, he is always excited to give some to his little brother. It really is the sweetest thing.
Hope you had a very Happy Halloween!
