How about a Sundaes and Service party to switch things up?
When brainstorming party ideas for our 9 parties in 9 weeks challenge, I thought it would be nice to add a party into the mix that would do a little good, something that would go beyond just having a fun time with friends. So we decided to throw a service party and the sundae part came from brainstorming possible refreshments to serve. Since we love ice-cream (in fact I am eating some as I write this) and keeping with the S in service, we decided to have sundaes afterward. Hence the name Service and Sundaes. Because really, who doesn’t like ice-cream?! Okay I am sure there are a few people who don’t but anyways…
The Service Party Part
To me, service is a very important part of life. Doing something for others not only blesses those receiving the service but those who give it as well.
I contacted an assisted living home near our house and scheduled with their activities director a time we could come help with an activity.
Some may think this isn’t a ‘conventional’ party, but it was planned, guests were invited, and food was served. And to top it off, we all got that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you do a little good. ๐
These ladies knew their bingo! And taught us youngsters a thing or two. And they were quite competitive, I guess that competitive spirit never leaves you. I felt bad when one lady asked us what the prizes were going to be for winning. Um… just the satisfaction of winning? She accepted the answer… perhaps a little reluctantly.
We had a few fellas show up late but they jumped right into to the party. Perhaps they were a little too zealous to help because they annoyed some of the ladies who had been doing quite fine without their assistance. ๐
The Sundaes Party Part
Afterwards, everyone drove to our home to enjoy the sundae part of our party. The decorations were simple (which made for easy cleanup!). I made a colorful circle garland made from streamer crepe paper (instructions are further down in this post) and I LOVED how it turned out. Everyone brought a their favorite topping to share, and the chocolate dipped ice-cream cones (which are SO easy and quick to make) were a hit! I agree with my friend, they really looked too good to eat!
Can you tell we’re related? Little man loves his ice-cream!
What a fun group!
How to make Circle Garland / Dot Streamers
Guess how many circles I cut? Okay this is a little bit of a trick question…
the answer it 10.
Yes I only cut 10 circles.
And yes, I do know how to count. Obviously the result of cutting 10 circles produced a lot more circles, thankfully or it would have taken a looooonnngggggg time cutting out each circle individually.
Thanks to the thinness of the streamer crepe paper, I was able to layer (accordion style) the paper several times and cut just one circle which in turn produced 10 circles. That’s using your head, I say! The tedious part was taping the circles to the string.
And guess what?!?!
This was out LAST party to throw in our 9 parties in 9 weeks challenge!!!!!
HOORAY!
Now what to do with all my free time now…. (o:
