Baby #5 is on the way! We have been consistent with our stream of boys since the beginning (all boy mama here!).
But is that about to change? Or keep going steady?!?!?
My two eldest have wanted another sibling, in particular a baby sister, for a while now. My oldest began praying for a new baby months before we were even thinking about it. He even asked me to pray for a baby as well. Ya… um… my youngest barely turned one, so I had to tell him I could not start praying for a baby quite yet!
When I became pregnant and told my boys the news, by way of their youngest brother walking out with a “big brother” t-shirt, they were very excited!
And then the first thing out of their mouths were “is the new baby a girl?!!!!!”
How to tell them?
Well I couldn’t tell them that detail yet because at the time we didn’t know. Finally when we were getting closer to my 27th week mark, my husband scheduled a visit for an ultra sound. He always likes to find out the gender before the baby’s debut, so we worked it out that he arranges the visit and I bring my belly. ๐
In preparation for finding out the gender, I wanted to figure out a fun, creative way to tell the boys what their new baby sibling was. I’ve seen the gender reveal powder and confetti cannons and the jumbo gender reveal balloons , when popped they have blue or pink confetti. Super cute ideas but for this reveal I was hankering for something a little different.
Silly String Gender Reveal Props
Then somehow my thought process lead me to thinking about silly string. Since silly string comes in both blue and pink colors and I have a house full of boys, a silly string gender reveal “battle” would be perfect! I thought it would be such a fun way for my boys to be a part of discovering whether their new sibling was a girl or a boy!
At the time I thought this gender reveal idea was sooo original.
Yea… negative ghost rider the pattern is full. There are tons of people that have already thought of it. They even sell silly string in cans that are colored both pink and blue labeled “boy or girl”. Owell, I still liked the idea so decided to move forward with it.
I had high hopes of designing a gender reveal silly string printable label that I could cover all the silly string cans with. But last Friday, when we discovered our sweet new baby’s gender, was the start of a busy weekend! My son’s birthday was on Saturday along with his baptism and we had family coming into town.
Not wanting to wait past Sunday to tell the boys, I instead quickly created some homemade labels to cover up the color of the can with the help of brown kraft card stock, markers, and tape. Oh and I made sure to take off the tops- very important! (I’m still hankering to make some free silly string gender reveal labels. Let me know if you would be interested!).
Here is my son’s “model” pose to show them off.
Team Boy vs Team Girl
Our family was a divided on their hopes for the gender. My husband and two oldest were thinking/hoping the baby was a baby girl and I was favoring the idea of another handsome little man (I already have boy themed accessories, toys, decor, and clothes but absolutely nothing in pink!).
I found these fun “team boy” and “team girl” shirts from a fabulous shop on Etsy that I totally recommend. The quality is great and their service was super fast and accommodating (I was guilty of the idea coming to fruition last minute)!
Since three of us were rooting for a baby girl, we fitted up the two youngest in the “team boy” apparel. So that this mama wouldn’t be flying solo.
Silly String Gender Reveal Set Up
If we had been in our old house, I would have invited all of the neighbor kids over for the big reveal and given each of them a can of silly string. Our family would have stood in the middle of our cul-de-sac and had everyone surround us. Then on the count of three, everyone would spray us with the gender revealing silly string color. It would have been FANTASTIC!
But alas, we moved.
Besides, it probably would have scared my youngest.
So we improvised. Everyone had their own can of silly string and we had a face off between “team boy” and “team girl”. And on the count of three we all started spraying…
Are you anxiously waiting to find out the gender of our new little one? ๐
One ………
Two ……..
THREE!!!!
Baby is a GIRL!!!
Team Girl for the win! The boys are ECSTATIC!!!!
My husband is beaming! I made him promise not to tell anyone until we first told our boys. So he could hardly wait to pass out PINK chocolate cigars to his coworkers, which is a tradition of his when he discovers the gender of our little ones.
And me, I’m excited…
and nervous! I don’t know how to raise girls!!! And all the preparations we need to make, it’s similar (on a much smaller scale) to having your first child. And does this mean I lose my title of “Boy Mama?”!!!!
But all that being said, I always knew someday that I would have a little girl. And the day before we found out the gender, I did happen upon the cutest, girliest little onesies while I was out and about running errands. They were so adorable and since there was a 50/50 chance of baby being a girl, I couldn’t help but purchase them!
Since we have a little more than two months to get everything ready for this sweet baby girl my husband said we don’t need to change anything in the nursery. Oh, no I said. We are going all pink and girly!

Aspen Jay says
Thanks dear friend! She is most definitely going to be spoiled from her older brothers! But I’m not sure how my youngest is going to feel about not being the baby anymore, it will take some getting used to for him for sure. Oh how our family’s little world will change dramatically with the debut of this little princess! We are excited!
Pamela Smith says
Congratulations! Girl mom here! You will have so much fun, and some drama, with a little girl. She will be well taken care of by 4 big brothers too!
Aspen Jay says
Thanks Pamela! I’m going to need some pointers from you for raising a little girl! We have already started predicting that she will have a hard time getting dates because the boys will be too intimidated by her older brothers. ๐
