I really enjoy our monthly Pinterest Activity. It all began about two years ago, when a friend and I were talking about all the crafts and recipes we found off of Pinterest that we wanted to make but hadn’t. We also touched upon how nice it would be to set up regular playdates for our children which would in turn allow us to mingle with other adults. We decided to schedule a monthly Pinterest Activity where we would meet to work on crafts, socialize, and let our children run around for a few hours. We created a Facebook group to invite other ladies and keep them informed on upcoming activities.
We usually bring our own project but have on occasion organized a similar craft for all to work on. This past month, we tapped into the crocheting skills of one of our friends. She taught us a few basics of crocheting to help us get started.
The kids have lots of space to run around and play which is great. If only they would always get along…
The treats we bring are recipes we have found on Pinterest. I made these delicious tasting Raspberry Swirl Cheesecake Cupcakes (you can find the recipe here) to share with everyone. With Valentines coming up, I added my own flare by creating hearts with the raspberry filling. They looked great…
until I cooked them. The whole thing sunk and shriveled up. Bahh! And I had stayed up late making them the night before. I guess I should have acknowledged the reviews of the recipe that said this would happen. Oh well, they still tasted great!
Often I don’t finish the products that I bring, but our Pinterest Activity is still always a success as far as I am concerned because my kids get a chance to interact with other children and have a lot of space to run around. I also have the chance to enjoy a little adult conversation during the day.
With the past weeks being full of parties, (this makes party #4 in the last 4 weeks) I was glad to have this more laid back activity. This may not have the appearance of a conventional party, but if you think about it, it has all the necessary components: it was planned, a group of people came, and there were refreshments. My friends must enjoy themselves as well because they keep coming every month. (o: It is a simple activity but still is something to look forward to, especially during the dismal winter months. And it is rather fitting, for January is National Hobby month. What better way to celebrate, than to learn a new hobby at a pinterest activity!
So apparently I am not very personal in my blog posts. My husband says I have resorted back to my college days when I had to write assignments for a class. I just want to state the facts and be done with it! I am a ‘list checker offer’ if you couldn’t tell. Anyways, I will try to be ‘more personal’ in my upcoming posts. (o:

Such a good idea. And when you’re a busy mom, I think low-stress parties are the best! ๐

I couldn’t agree more! ๐

Love this idea! Kids get to play and you get to craft! Can’t get much better than that! ๐

I know, right! ๐

Playgroup at the church is the best! It’s a big room for the kids to run around – which they could all use in the middle of winter.
I can’t really focus on a project while socializing (I do my best work alone in a quiet room, which is probably why I never do any crafts) but some of the moms in our playgroup bring something to work on.

I know what you mean Jenny! I rarely ever finish a project at our pinterest activities, but it sure is nice to socialize with adults during the day!

This looks SO fun ๐ How awesome that you have a group of friends with kiddos and crafting in common ๐ There was a Pinterest connect group at a lady’s house during our last small group season. I think it is such a brilliant idea to get a chance to be together and cross of one of those projects! These headbands look great ๐ — and I wouldn’t mind a sunken cheesecake! lol
Thanks for sharing!

You are most welcome Andrea! It is a lot of fun to see what other ladies are working on and to let the kids run around. The cheesecakes thankfully tasted good even though they looked less than desirable. ๐ Thanks for stopping by!

What a great idea! I have done playdates in the past when I had very little in common with the other mothers. This provides a common ground.
Aspen Jay says
I hadn’t thought of it that way Kim, but now that you bring it up and thinking back to some of the ladies that come, I guess crafting may be one of the things we have in common! Glad you stopped by!
Stephanie @ Mommyzoid says
This is an awesome idea! Some women in my mommy group so something similar to this but I have yet to attend one!
Found your blog over at Hit Me With Your Best Shot!

What a fun idea!! I have been wanting to do something similar!

You should Jennifer! Thankfully this type of ‘party’ is easy peasy. ๐

I love the idea of the pinterest party. My favorite part though has to be the kids in the background of the pictures going crazy and/or laying on the floor in the gym. Just hysterical. I think I am going to try to set one of these parties up in my area. Thanks for the suggestion.
Aspen Jay says
Mine too!!! Several of my friends don’t even bring a project to work on but are just happy to have some adult time while their children are running around. You are most welcome and I hope your party is a success!

That sounds like so much fun! I would have as much fun seeing what everyone else brought to work on as I would working on my own project. What a great idea!
Aspen Jay says
Thanks for all your party support Carlee! ๐ It is always great to get inspired by what others bring to work on.
