Ah, Valentine’s Day. This year I’ve been in full Valentine card creating mode! Which hopefully means you don’t have to be, since I’ve been sharing a bunch of free Valentine printables here on the blog.
One of my favorite ideas this year ended up being these super fun heart maze Valentines.
Heart Maze Valentine Cards
It all started when I came across these fun, colorful pencils that instantly felt nostalgic. They had the cutest erasers on top and were at a really great price. I remember having pencils like that when I was younger and thinking they were the best thing ever.
The idea of giving something for Valentine’s Day that kids would actually keep using — and that wasn’t just for Valentine’s Day — really stuck with me. That got me thinking… What if I designed a Valentine card that matched the bright, fun feel of the pencils, but still kept that sweet Valentine look?
So I grabbed a pack of the pencils and started working on some designs.
Last year, I gave my kids a few different Valentines, and they especially loved the maze ones. Since this Valentine would be paired with a pencil, it felt like the perfect opportunity to add a little activity right onto the card — and of course, it had to be a heart maze! I paired it with the phrase “I’m lost without you,” which felt like the perfect playful match for a Valentine maze card.
I used bright, cheerful colors to coordinate with the pencils, but kept hearts and classic Valentine colors so the focus still feels festive and Valentine-themed. The cards are sized just right to slide onto a pencil or pen. Not too big, but large enough to make the maze fun.
I know little trinket toys can be fun in the moment, but they often end up forgotten in a drawer somewhere. I love this Valentine idea because kids are excited to get it, and they will actually use it long after Valentine’s Day is over. And hopefully, it gives them a little smile each time they pull that pencil out to use it.
If you like non-candy Valentines, you might also like my Hugs & Squishes and Valentine Wishes printable cards. It’s another fun printable option for classroom exchanges.

What You’ll Need
Here’s everything you’ll need to put these heart maze Valentines together:
• Free maze Valentine cards printable (download link below)
• White cardstock (or regular printer paper)
• Pencils (Valentine-themed or any fun themed ones make these extra cute!) or pens
• Scissors or paper cutter
That’s it — quick prep and classroom ready.

Assembling the Valentines
Download the printable file
It will download as a zipped folder — just double-click to open and access your Valentine cards.
Print the maze Valentine cards
You can use regular paper or cardstock, but I recommend cardstock since you’ll be sliding a pencil through the card.
Cut out each card
For the small pencil openings, carefully use the tip or edge of your scissors to create the slits. It’s quick and works really well.
Add the pencil
Have your child fill in their name, then slide a pencil through the top and bottom openings.
Done! A super cute Valentine that’s ready to hand out — and one kids can actually use long after Valentine’s Day is over.

Here are a few helpful printing details:
Each heart maze Valentine card measures 2 x 4.5 inches and prints eight cards per page. Each card features the heart maze design with the cute “I’m lost without you” Valentine saying. You can print as many as you need for your classroom party.
