This Irish Prayer Printable will help brighten your St. Patrick’s Day. π
Happy March to you! Spring is just around the corner! Hooray! And I don’t know about you, but I am ready for this whole ‘spring forward’ time change thing to take place as it is bright and sunny around here about 5:30am. Easter is this month and St. Patrick’s Day!
Growing up, I always honored St. Patrick’s Day by wearing something with green in it, pinching who didn’t (at least threatening I would), and occasionally using food coloring to dye a meal or two green (green mashed potatoes… yum! π ). I didn’t know the origin of the holiday but this year decided to learn a little bit of the history behind this holiday we call St. Patrick’s Day.
You may have already known that this holiday was named after a Christian missionary/Bishop of Ireland. But did you know that it is believed he was a Roman Britain who, at the age of 16, was kidnapped by Irish Raiders and taken as a slave to Gaelic Ireland?
I had no idea! The story goes that after 6 years of working as a shepherd there, he found God and fled the island. He became a priest back in Britain and then subsequently returned to Ireland to serve the very people who enslaved him. No wonder he was named a Saint! It is said he converted thousands to Christianity.
We celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th of March because that was the day he died and the reason you see shamrocks all over the place on this holiday is because he used the 3 leaf clover to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish. The color green came many years after from the Irish Catholic Confederation’s green harp flag. Everything else that is tied to the day was added on by the Irish over the years, including an annual 5 day festival in Dublin.
Pretty neat, huh? I never really decorated for St. Patrick’s Day before, but after learning a little bit of the history of it, I want to add a few shamrocks and a bit of green to my living room. π
St. Patrick’s Day Irish Prayer Printable
I created two St. Patrick’s Day printables for you using an Irish prayer that I really like:
“May God give you, for every storm, a rainbow. For every tear, a smile. For every care, a promise. And a blessing in each trial. For every problem life sends, A faithful friend to share. For every sigh, a sweet song. And an answer for each prayer.”
Hopefully one design fits your fancy. π
