DANCE PAR-TAAAAY!!!! Valentines Dance Party at that!
This Dance Themed Party was party #6 and was a breath of fresh air compared to our western party because it only took about an hour to set up and 20 minute to take down.
That element alone made for a very lovely evening.
Our friends were kind enough to let us use their basement for our event. Since their basement was in the middle of being remodeled the place was empty which was perfect for us and to top it off, it even had wood floors. PERFECT!
Yes perhaps a bit sappy, but we went with a Valentines theme. I originally was planning a night club feel but honestly it couldn’t be helped since we were throwing the party the day before Valentines. Besides I was in a heart decorating mood and it made for a fun theme to work with.
The little paper roses are super easy to make, you can find the tutorial here.
Like the large poofy heart?! I was thrilled how it turned out! All I used to make it was tape, tissue paper, and cardboard that I cut into a heart for the backing. The total cost was less than $5 … and a bit of stress on the side. I made a smaller version of this tissue paper flower wreath for my door and have a complete tutorial how to make it if you are interested.
It really isn’t that difficult to make except that I procrastinated the decorations for the party until… well lets just say I bought all the supplies two days before the event. Funny thing is I am not a procrastinator! In college I always tried to finish assignments as soon as possible. I couldn’t understand how people could put off their schoolwork until the last minute. Like my roommate who began working on 15 different art pieces that were due the next day when she had known about them the entire semester! Yes she finished them all and received a good grade but WOW, I just could not handle the added stress!
And yet… here I am waiting until the last second to make the decorations. This isn’t the first party I have done it on, so you think I would learn my lesson, but nope, I keep on waiting until the last minute. Oh well, somehow it all comes together!
The reason we decided on throwing a dance party is because, first off I really enjoy dancing and second well, I have a really good connection in this field. You see my wonderfully talented and beautiful sister is a professional ballroom instructor and I thought perhaps… she wouldn’t mind teaching a group dance class for me. 😉
She agreed and brought one of her dance partners along. They instructed us in salsa and later in waltz and did a FABULOUS job! Yes I am a bit spoiled, I must admit.
Of course it helped that we had a energetic group who were all eager to learn. Everyone said what a fun time they had and want to know when we are having the next night of dance instruction. Looks like my sister and her friend earned a few new students! 😉
Hope you had a great Valentines! And good luck in your party preparations! Wait you are throwing a party soon, aren’t you??!!! Haven’t you caught the party fever yet? 🙂
