Summer with these two was a little hectic. The boys and I spent several weeks in Oregon with family while my husband stayed home busy with work. I envisioned lots of personal free time on our trip as Boston could play in my parent’s fenced yard or with the many toys, but contrary to my hopes and dreams, he was EXTREMELY clingy and the baby decided he disliked sleeping. Boston didn’t start warming up to my family until the end of our stay, which was 4 weeks later. Without my husband there, I never did get a break. Needless to say, it was no vacation… in fact I feel like I was gypped out of a summer!
But despite all this, it was good to be home. We had several play dates with my sister’s daughters and took many walks to different parks in the area. We even spent a day at the Enchanted Forest. This is a must if you are around the Salem area and have children. I thought Boston might be a little too young to thoroughly enjoy it, but he LOVED it! He and his cousin walked the entire time (we arrived at 10am and left at 4pm), anxious to visit every storybook character. What’s great about this park is there are not any lines until further on in the park, so we were tantrum free for a few hours. The toddlers just could not understand why they had to wait. When stepping off a train ride, Boston waved to me and said “bye” signaling me that I could go, but he was going to ride it again.
We took a day trip to Seaside. And since we were in northern Oregon, we enjoyed running away from the water and not towards it or in it.
Tennessee sporting pink while at his cousin’s house.
For my family’s annual reunion, we stayed up in a cabin in Heber City, Utah. We journeyed into town to ride the Heber Creeper, a historic old train. Boston couldn’t have been more thrilled.
Two of my sisters. We are all nursing mamas.
Like father like son. Boston followed my husband around for two laps around the yard and then insisted on being carried the rest of the way.
Would you plant a flower that blooms in the evening and lasts just one night? Our neighbors did, and invited us over to see this flower, a Night Blooming Cereus (or it’s nickname ‘Christ in the Manager’), in all it’s glory. The plant is actually a little ugly but the flower is gorgeous and smells divine.
And now for the cutest picture of Tennessee ever and his six month update!
Now that summer has come to a close, it is back to the daily grind of life… like potty training. Any experienced veterans out there have advice for this newbie? Especially you mothers out there with boys.
