We recently celebrated my son’s one and only golden birthday. Since this special day only comes around once in a lifetime, I wanted to make sure it was extra special. Along with the birthday festivities and presents, I thought a gift basket of golden themed goodies would be a nice touch and a fun surprise.
What is a Golden Birthday?
A golden birthday is when the day of the month you were born on matches your age. So for example, if you were born April 29th, your golden birthday would be when you turn 29 years old. If you were born May 9th, then the day you turn 9 is your golden birthday.
If your golden birthday passed you by because you were only 3 years old when it happened, never fear! You actually have a few more shots at having a golden birthday. Another golden birthday option is when you turn the age of the year you were born. For example, if you born in 1985, your golden birthday would be when you turn 85 years old! And of course, there is always turning 50 years old, which is considered a golden birthday.
Whatever golden birthday it is, make it a special day and celebrate!

Of course, a gold themed birthday basket doesn’t have to be just for someone’s golden birthday! This basket of golden goodies would be a great gift to brighten anyone’s birthday! What goes into Golden Birthday Gift Basket
So what should you put in a golden birthday gift basket?
Anything GOLD of course!
The items can be gold in color or have the word “gold” in the title.
I personally LOVE putting together a gift or party with a theme in mind! It gives direction and makes for a fun challenge to try to find things that fit inside the theme. I visited several stores and added anything I could find that went along with the gold theme. Well… that’s not exactly true. I did spot a package of potato chips that were in a gold bag, but they were of some odd, questionable flavor, so I passed those up.
In my search for gold themed novelties, I discovered quite a few items that would be perfect in a golden gift basket. I thought it may be helpful if I compiled a list of my findings to help you get started assembling your gold basket! I didn’t include any of those generic (eh hem *nasty*) gold colored candies you can find at party stores, because I figured those were pretty easy to find.

Golden Birthday Gifts for Everyone
My son’s birthday basket was overflowing with sugared goodness and filled with a few birthday themed trifles like candles and such. I had a few other birthday gifts (this was my favorite gold find!) that I had wrapped up separate from the basket – we actually hid all of his presents throughout the house which he really enjoyed! So I didn’t have much filling the basket other than candy.

Assembling your Golden Birthday Basket
Now that you have all the sweets, keepsakes, and a birthday tag to finish it off, you just need a basket or a box wrapped in gold wrapping paper to assemble it all into one perfect bundle! If using a wire basket, be sure to put a piece of paper or tissue paper down (and maybe if you need to on the sides) to prevent items from falling out any of the openings. This is especially needed if the basket needs to be transported somewhere else!
