“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.”
-William Shakespeare
Well, apparently not in my family. Seems as if we ALL like the SAME names. And I’m not even talking family names, like using dear little grandma’s or great grandpa’s name but random, no connection at all, names.
For example, when pregnant with our first, I LOVED the name “Ellie May” for a little girl. My husband and I decided on that name and we didn’t tell
A
SINGLE
SOUL!
My sister and her husband were also expecting and had been telling everyone for months that their little baby girl’s name was to going to be “Payton”. My sister had her baby four months before me and chose the name . . .
Ellie.
How in the world?! That wasn’t even on their radar? Fortunately for us, we had a little boy. But if we are ever blessed with a little girl (prayers appreciated) does anyone have a cute name they’d be willing to share? ๐
There is another incident of a sister using a name another sister had already claimed (I have 6 sisters). Sooo, there are two cousins with the same name and they are but a few months apart.
Funny story about that, my niece, from my oldest sister, told her aunt that she had stolen her baby brother’s name. Her aunt responded back that her baby was born first. My niece thought for a moment and declared “Oh, then I guess my mom stole your baby’s name!”
I also have a niece on my husband’s side with my name and my husband’s name has also been re-used.ย So apparently we don’t branch out much.
If your family is anything like mine, this baby name race game would be perfect at an upcoming baby shower! It definitely helps people think outside the box.
FREE OWL BABY SHOWER GAME
The rules are quite straightforward. Everyone writes names that begins with each letter in the alphabet. The first person to finish wins. You could even take it to another level, if your group is smaller, by not giving points to those that have the same name written. Just to add a little bit of fun.
Do you like my new little owl design? He is pretty cute, if I do say so myself. ๐
