I had a blast planning a football baby shower for my friend and her little baby boy on the way! For the party, I invited everyone to sport their football apparel, so I thought it would be fun if I created a football photo themed backdrop for guests to take pictures in front of.

The photo backdrop was a huge hit at the baby shower! And so worth the few supplies and little amount of time it took to construct it all!
This would also be perfect backdrop for a football food table, gift table, or any place you want to add a little more “football” feel too.
Football Photo Backdrop Instructions
So if you are throwing a football or a sports themed party and would like to set up a fun (& inexpensive) photo backdrop, you are in the right place!
To create this football photo backdrop you will just need a few items.
What you’ll need:
- scissors
- roll of black matte paper
- thumb tacks/tape
- pencil
- white chalk marker
- twine
- FREE football pennant banner
Instructions:
Step 1: Start by finding the perfect spot for you backdrop. It’s best to find a wall with open space in front of it. Then decide the dimensions and height of your backdrop. Is it for guests’ full body or just their torso and head?
Step 2: Secure your black paper with thumb tacks at the high point on the wall and roll it to the desired length, cut the paper, and secure again – you could also use tape but it may not hold up as well. We used thumb tacks but in a few spots where it wasn’t laying smoothly, I used the tape to stick it down. Begin your next sheet of black paper at the same height as the first and overlap the pieces slightly. Continue this until you reach your desired width.
Step 3: Find a football play to duplicate (just search for “football chalkboard plays” in Google and you’ll find a bunch!). Use a pencil to lightly draw the football game plan so you make sure to have the spacing just right. Then use the chalk marker to draw over your pencil marks.
Step 4: Hang your football banner and your backdrop is complete! Depending on the lightening, you may consider adding some extra light to brighten your space. We used two tall lamps on both sides of the photo backdrop which helped immensely.
Football Photo Backdrop Props
To finish it off… props!
Help your guests get into the football spirit with a supply of football paraphernalia for their photo! We had eye black stickers for everyone to grab on the entry table and a bucket of footballs (of course!), oversized foam hands, a megaphone, and pompoms.
But before you head to your local party store, be sure to decide on a color scheme. Are you highlighting a certain team or making it a generic football party? We were keeping it generic so had touches of green, brown, and white.
Be sure to let me know what you add to your football photo backdrop!
