Are you ready for some
BABY!
er I mean football?!?
Better yet, let’s do BOTH!
Because I am so excited to share pics from a football themed baby shower I threw for my friend who was expecting her first baby boy.
Before she was married, she wasn’t a big football fan. But thanks to the influence of her husband, she has become an avid football fan. So when I mentioned the football theme for the baby shower she was ecstatic. But I think her husband was even more excited! ๐
Football Baby Shower Inspiration
Lucky for me, I live next door to the high school football coach. So he hooked me up with some football gear to display at the shower.
It was really easy to get carried away with the football aspect of decorating and not show anything about baby. So along with collecting football paraphernalia, I had to make it a point to add a bit of “baby” throughout the football embellishments.
Setting the Stage
As a host, you can only decorate so much. The key is to get your guests involved in the theme whenever you can. This adds an extra element of awesomeness to any party and adds more anticipation for the event!
I prepped the guests for the football theme by sending out football ticket invitations. And in the invites, I asked everyone to wear their favorite football team apparel.
Obviously not everyone is going to dress up (sad day!) but you might be surprised how many people actually do! One of my girlfriends said that she was SO excited to pull out her old Green Bay Packers jersey she had kept in her closet for years and years.
The Outside Greeting
We displayed our lighted chalkboard sign outside the front door along with some football apparel. Instead of writing out the sign with chalk, I created our welcome sign on my computer. I had it printed and then taped it onto the chalkboard.
A word to the wise, if you are printing a sign this large, DO NOT print it on cardstock. I made that mistake once (only once) and it cost me $50! Instead, have it printed on engineer paper. It cost a fraction of the cost (like $5) and it still looks great!
My absolute favorite part of our outside entrance… sadly can’t be captured in a photo.. was the music. What says “football” more than a high school marching band! Yep we had some music playing through a blue tooth on a loop of the football scene from Disney’s cartoon Robin Hood. You’ll have to check it out to remember the scene if you don’t. ๐
Football Baby Shower Entry Decor
Our entry table was all things football with a splash of baby! I like to have many of the activities for guests to participate in right up front for two reasons. One, so they don’t miss anything and two so I don’t have to inform everyone about it. I designed several printables to go along with the entry table including the football banner which you can download for free.
To help out the new mama, I like to have blank envelopes on the entry table with a little note requesting the guests to write their address on one. It’s something simple but saves the mama-to-be a TON of time by not having to look up and write everyone’s address (especially if there are many people that attend!). I then gift the new mama the envelopes and thank-you cards.
Do you like the football subway print?
It’s not specific to a baby shower so can be used for anything football related. A decoration for a football themed party or framed on the wall for your kid’s sports themed bedroom. You can grab this subway art printable for FREE by clicking on the link.
In case people didn’t get the memo to sport their favorite team, they still had the opportunity to “dress up” a bit with these eye black stickers.
For a fun keepsake for the football-loving mama and baby, everyone was asked to sign the football. I then gifted it to the mama before she left.

Football Baby Shower Decor
Adding the “baby” aspect, is quickly done by using a bit of twine and some clothespins to hang little baby onesies – football onesies of course. I recommend hanging the 3 month old ones or younger. You get to six months and they just look so big in comparison.
You may know of my love of cardboard for awesome yet inexpensive party props. Well this time, instead of cardboard, I repurposed a bit of styrofoam to make a large football for the fireplace mantle.
Why styrofoam you may ask? My husband actually suggested it because of the bumpy texture, it could give it the look of an actual football. So eyeballing a football drawing, I sketched out an oval football shape on the styrofoam. Then cut out the outline with an exacto knife and painted it.
Paired with a little “grass” (aka green garland) it looked pretty awesome!
Football Food Table
Ah the food table! A central spot for any party. It’s where the guests gravitate to. It’s where all the food is. It is the gathering place so it better look fabulous!
The majority of my time and creativity for most events is spent on the food table. This football baby shower was no exception! There was SO much detail to capture on just the food table alone that I decided it warranted a whole other blog post to do it justice. And of course I didn’t want to overload you with too many photos (well in this post anyways!).
So here is just a quick overview. But if you are anxious to learn more (and grab some FREE printables while you are at it), be sure to check out the football themed food table. It’s chocked full of inspiration you are going to LOVE!

FOOTBALL BABY SHOWER ACTIVITIES
Ah the candy guessing game! Have you ever won one before? What’s your strategy? I have only won one of these things once in my whole life and guess what it was full of?
Tootsie Rolls.
Out of ALL the candies, I won my most non favorite chocolate candy EVER! Bah! Frankly these mini chocolate footballs aren’t much better in my opinion but they fit the football theme perfectly. So what’s one to do? Besides I may be a bit of a chocolate snob anyways. ๐ You can grab the candy guessing printables in my shop.
We played a few interactive baby shower games like “Who knows Daddy Best” and “Baby Bingo“. The latter game is a perfect way to keep guests entertained while the mama-to-be is opening up her gifts.

I’ve wanted to create a photo backdrop for a party. And since people may be dressing up, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to finally make one.
I’m so glad that I did because it was a BIG hit! People were holding props and snapping photos of each other while laughing and having a great time.
The backdrop was super simple to make and I walk you through the whole process over here.
And that about sums up our football baby shower! Hope you gleaned a bit of inspiration for throwing your own football or baby shower themed event!
