Resourceful decorating ideas for a baby shower that double as gifts for the mama to be! Scroll down for the FREE printable games! Post may contain affiliate links.
Last weekend my friend and I threw a baby shower for our girlfriend who is pregnant with her first little munchkin. I jumped at the chance of throwing a baby shower because I LOVE parties of all kinds (just check out our 9 week party challenge if you don’t believe me! ๐ ) This was the first baby shower that I have ever been a host of and thanks to Pinterest, it went well. I admit decorating with pink was quite a stretch for both of us as we are both boy mamas, but we managed.
We made simple, fun decorations which didn’t break the bank and doubled as gifts for the mama-to-be. That is what I call resourceful!
Baby Shower entrance
First off, I am ALL about balloons at a party, especially when it comes to decorating the outside. Aside from helping people get into the party mood right off the bat it also is a nice courtesy in acting as a helpful sign to those guests who may have never been to the place the baby shower is being thrown at.
The grand front entrance. Simple yet fun. And yes, I photo bombed my own picture. A simple tip to keep your balloons to stay put is to use tacks instead of tape.
For the entry table, we highlighted our pink and yellow colors.
The mama-to-be didn’t have any plans for the nursery yet, so instead of throwing the banner in the trash when the baby shower was over, we gave it to her to put up in the baby’s room. Just ignore the boxes in the background, my friend is in the process of moving. We were lucky to have furniture to sit on! ๐
The party favors were “Blessing Candles.” Each guest is to light their candle when the mama-to-be goes into labor to send her well wishes.
Instead of your traditional sign in book or note cards of advice for the mama-to-be, my friend was inspired with a sign in blanket. Each guest drew their hand print and signed their name with fabric pens. This would give the mama-to-be something fun to remember during those long sleepless nights with her little one and allowed all of us to help “hold” her new baby.
A onesie banner with our coordinating baby shower colors and diaper wreath which were afterwards given to the mama-to-be.
And a close up of my pride and joy! The diaper wreath complete with baby elephant. It does take a little time but is not that difficult to make.
The diaper wreath tutorial that I used which is very thorough and easy to understand can be found here. The only suggestion I would add to it is to use white card board if you have it which eliminates an entire step. If not, she says to cover it with white paper with the use of just a glue stick. All the diapers are then hot glued onto the paper which is merely attached to the cardboard by a glue stick.
At least add tape for more security or something! Otherwise your diaper and paper will fall off your cardboard and the whole thing will come crumbling down (don’t ask me how I know!). Also if you want your diapers to be all white, look for a diaper brand that is all white, otherwise you will have added color you may not have wanted, hence the bit of green in mine. The diaper wreath tutorial does not come with instructions to make the cute little elephants though… so I made a tutorial on how to fold a washcloth elephant (and a washcloth hippo and train) myself. ๐ Just click on the links.
Free Printable Baby Shower Games
I designed three baby shower games which were a hit, especially the baby bingo (it keeps people involved during the gift opening). Of course we had ours in pink, but never fear, I made some in blue as well. Please feel free to use these at your next baby shower! You can download the three printable baby shower games HERE.
Hope some of these ideas help spark some of your own!ย Happy partying to you!
