Our baby is here! Arriving a few hours before his due date. So yes, this post is a little late, but hey, we just had a baby!
It is amazing the power of the mind. Our little one had been threatening for two weeks and as soon as we made it in the safe zone of 38 weeks he stayed put. Upon being checked, I was told the baby’s head was only two inches in, just waiting to be born. So… what was holding him up? His mama…me. I was not looking forward to the pain that comes in delivery and to be honest, after just coming off bed rest, I wasn’t thrilled to go back on it after the birth. Several ladies from church said “I bet you are just wanting that baby out!” When in fact, I was fine with him staying put for awhile… I could get so much more done that way! But after being checked and then told we would have to take measures if the baby didn’t come by himself in a few days, I decided it was time to start inserting some positive thoughts.
I spent that evening talking to my yet unborn babe telling him we were ready for him. The next day during my toddler’s nap time, I also spent time talking to the babe telling him we wanted to see him and that I was ready for him. By the end of the nap time contractions began. We sat down to dinner at 6pm, my husband just returning home from work. He thought we should wait until 9pm to take our toddler to his friend’s for the night but I didn’t want to have any chance of my husband not being there when I delivered so he left the house about 7:20pm. I was at this point walking when ever a contraction hit as they were intensifying and beginning to be more consistent. By the time the hubby returned a little after 8pm, I was briskly walking back and forth and quickly running out of energy. He held me up through a few contractions and then I had to sit down on the bed. I was dilated to a 10. After breathing through two more contractions, I began pushing. And pushing… the baby’s head wasn’t molding (in fact it didn’t mold at all and measured 14 inches) so we definitely had to work both me and the baby. And it didn’t help matters that the chord was wrapped around his neck, but all things considered, it was quick and he was born at 9:07pm.
Words cannot express the relief and joy that comes when the little one is placed on your belly and you know the pain is over! I love holding my precious newborn and how extremely sweet my husband is to me but as my sister said “Life would not be as enjoyable if we had babies every day.”
