This year for Halloween we went with a Firefighter motif, despite Boston wanting to be Peter Pan for the 3rd year in a row. I told the boys they could wear whatever they wanted Halloween night as long as they were firefighters for our church’s trunk or treat. They both agreed to that. 🙂

Funny thing, I had actually purchased their firefighter costumes for Halloween last year.
Talk about being prepared right?!? Well not exactly. You see, they had seen the firefighter costumes at the store and grew SUPER excited. I thought, why not? Because we had recently moved, I wasn’t planning to spend much time on Halloween preparations. If I had their costumes done as early as August, all the better!
A few days before Halloween, Boston declared he wanted to be Peter Pan so he could use his sword.
Really?!

Family of Firefighters for Halloween
Oh well… It all worked out.
While brainstorming ideas for this year’s family themed costumes, I remembered the boys firefighter costumes. And after discovering the outfits still fit, it was a no brainier to what our theme should be.
I’m actually really glad we waited until this year. We had a two firefighters, fire flames, a fire hydrant (use your imagination a bit- I should have gotten him this shirt!), and with our 5 month old addition, we now had the cutest (& chubbiest!) little Dalmatian pup!
For Fallon’s dalmatian costume, I found a little polka dot outfit which was perfect. I whipped up some puppy dog ears with the help of felt and a glue gun, attached them to the top with two safety pins, and we were in business!

Firefighter themed Trunk or Treat
My husband hooked me up with three large boxes from work which I painted black and then glued on the yellow square of construction paper I had cut out to represent the windows.
Tulle came in really handy for my costume as well as for our trunk decorations. I was originally planning to use red, orange, and yellow tissue paper on the buildings but it just didn’t look right.
The tulle had the wispy look of actual fire, so I created a few more fire flames like I had for my head piece and stuck them on the building.

I LOVE how our firefighter themed trunk turned out and this picture doesn’t do it justice! We had fans placed underneath the boxes face up that blew the streamers up for an active fire look as well as a string of blinking orange lights. To top it all off, we went to youtube to find the sound of a firetruck siren that we had playing in the background.
And it being a firefighter theme, we of course had to hand out fire ball candies in a water pail. 😉

I won the costume contest at my son’s school trunk or treat thanks to your ideas here! The fire tulle headband really makes it awesome. Only thing I added was a big flame I made out of construction paper and hung with a string like a necklace so people would know what I was without my little firefighter next to me.
